MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian agency for health and consumer rights Rospotrebnadzor recorded 15 cases of the so-called Hong Kong flu in 11 regions of the country, the head of the watchdog said Tuesday.
"Fifteen cases of the H3N2 virus strain of the influenza A (Hong Kong Flu) was recorded in 11 regions last week, while three cases of the influenza B was recorded in Rostov Region and no cases of the H1N1 virus strain were registered last week," Anna Popova told RIA Novosti.
Popova stated that flu case rate remained low. The breaches of the weekly flu case threshold were registered in Novosibirsk, Karelia, Perm and Primorsky regions of Russia. Popova noted that 35.7 percent of the Russian population had already been vaccinated.
The H3N2 flu virus strain originated in Hong Kong. The pandemic of 1968 and 1969 killed an estimated one million people worldwide.
