MOSCOW (Sputnik) – It is hard to say at present whether the issue regarding the transfer of Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, held in a US prison, will be resolved before the end of President Barack Obama’s term, but Moscow is working on it, Russian Foreign Ministry Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said Tuesday.
"There are all legal bases for this step by the US side, we are sure of it, leaving aside the political nature of Yaroshenko’s sentence," Dolgov told RIA Novosti.
According to the issue, Moscow is actively working with the US authorities on the case of Yaroshenko, whose health conditions are a cause for concern. If the outgoing Obama administration does not take a decision on transferal of Yaroshenko to Russia, "we shall work with the next administration, the administration of [US President-elect Donald] Trump," the ombudsman added.
