LIMA (Sputnik) — At least eight people died and 13 went missing Wednesday in a fire that broke out in a cinema located next to the hotel in Lima where some APEC summit attendees, including US President Barack Obama planned to stay, a local police representative told Sputnik.
"Up to now, it's 8 dead and 13 missing," a police representative for Miraflores district in Lima said.
The movie theater is located inside the Larcomar seaside mall that is just in front of the Marriott hotel, where the US delegation was planning to stay for APEC Economic Leaders' Week.
The causes of the fire are under investigation, Larcomar said in a statement.
Almost 200 people have been evacuated from the mall after the fire was detected, El Comercio newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, 12 firefighting units are working on extinguishing the fire, which has spread to the shops, located near the cinema.
