MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Canada expects that the United Kingdom well become a part of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union and Canada, Canadian Trade Minister Bill Morneau said Wednesday.
"Our expectation is that Britain will ratify the deal and be part of that deal. How the UK and Europe concludes on their arrangement will of course be for them to conclude … We will respect the way the UK and Europe concludes its relationship," Morneau told BBC Radio 4, as quoted by The Sun newspaper.
The CETA aims to establish a free trade zone between Canada and the European Union. In 2013, Ottawa and Brussels reached an agreement on key elements of the deal. The deal was signed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in October.
