WADA Suspends Doha Anti-Doping Lab Accreditation
MOSCOW (Sputnik) President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov stressed on Wednesday the need to restore credibility and rights of the Russian anti-doping agency (RUSADA) as soon as possible, noting numerous gaps in the strategy of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

"There are very serious critical gaps in this foreign system of doping control artificially created for Russia. These gaps prevent the effective and full-scale anti-doping fight. First of all, there is insufficient volume of doping tests… That is why, in our opinion, it is necessary to restore as soon as possible the national structures named RUSADA and the anti-doping laboratory," Zhukov said at the General Assembly meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).

He added that Russia was "ready to do it in close collaboration with WADA and IOC [International Olympic Committee], with the assistance of the recommended foreign experts and managers."

Zhukov also called on WADA to restore membership of Russian Athletic Federation and Paralympic Committee in the relevant international organizations.

In July, WADA presented a report accusing Russia of running a state-wide doping program and urging the IOC to consider a blanket ban on the entire Russian team. The IOC instead opted to let individual sports federations decide on the matter.

As a result, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) banned Russian athletes from taking part in international competitions including the 2016 Summer Olympics. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) later banned all Russian Paralympic athletes from the 2016 Summer Paralympics and the 2018 Winter Games.

XXI ANOC General Assembly meeting is held in Qatar’s Doha on November 15-16.
