MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The government of Argentina has extradited one of the most prominent Colombian drug lords, Henry Jesus Lopez Londono, also known as My Blood, to the United States, local media reported on Thursday.

The drug baron was delivered by helicopter from a prison to Ezeiza international airport within the Greater Buenos Aires on Thursday morning, where a private plane took him to the United States. The operation to extradite Londono was kept secret — the drug lord himself found out about it half an hour before it began, Clarin newspaper reported.

In May, it was reported that, in accordance with the decision of an Argentinian judge, Londono would be transferred to the Federal Court of the US state of Florida as per Washington's extradition request.

Londono led the Colombian cartel Urabenos, which has more than 2,000 members. The group, which controls much of the production of cocaine on the border of Colombia and Panama, has been accused of mass killings of civilians on Colombian territory.

Londono was arrested by Argentinian authorities in 2012 in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. Colombian authorities accuse him of drug trafficking and terrorism while in the United States he was charged with drug smuggling and conspiracy.
