Donetsk Republic Plans to Open Two Representative Offices in EU by 2017

The Donetsk People's Republic plans to open two representative offices now and five more in the longer term in addition to the one in the Czech Republic.

DONETSK (Sputnik) — The Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) intends to open two representative offices in the EU countries before the end of the year, acting DPR Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova said.

"Apart from the representative office of the DPR in the Czech Republic, opened on September 1, there are several foreign projects being developed… Two more representative offices are planned to be opened before the end of the year, and five more in the longer term," Nikonorova told RIA Novosti.

She noted that all these centers were public organizations.

According to Nikonorova, the DPR authorities also work on other aspects of international cooperation, for instance, they are working on intergovernmental agreements with South Ossetia.

"There is a draft treaty on friendship and cooperation, that we hope to sign it in the near future. It is being coordinated," she said.

On September 1, the first DPR representative office in a EU state opened in Ostrava, the Czech Republic.

Kiev launched a military operation in Ukraine's southeast in April 2014 against independence supporters in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, after local residents refused to recognize the new government in Kiev which had been imposed after a West-sponsored coup.
