MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The victory of Donald Trump in US presidential elections may become an impediment for the international community's efforts on Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement, French President Francois Hollande said on Thursday.
"The chances to hold the peace conference in Paris are not good … However, the problem is not only the cancelling of the conference. If Trump keeps to his word, the international community cannot come together to support the peace process. The very commitment to peace and the future of the process will be in danger,” Hollande told The Jerusalem Post's sister paper Maariv on the sidelines of the Marrakech Climate Change Conference.
In September, Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that under his administration the United States would recognize Jerusalem, claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians as their capital, as the undivided capital of Israel.
On November 8, Trump won the US presidential election with 290 electoral votes, while his opponent Hillary Clinton received 232. The inauguration of the US president-elect is to take place on January 20.
