MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Lack of security in Iraq may spread to the whole region and Iran will do what it can to bring back peace and security to its neighbor, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Thursday.
"Insecurity in Iraq is insecurity in the region…. The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no help to establish security and peace in Iraq," Larijani said, as cited by Tasnim news agency, during a meeting with Humam Hamoudi, the first deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament, in the Iranian capital Tehran.
The Iranian parliamentary speaker also praised the recent advancements by the Iraqi troops against terrorist groups and expressed hope that Iraq would be able to defeat terrorism completely.
Iraq has been engaged in a fierce war with Daesh, a terrorist group outlawed in Russian and many other countries, since 2014 after the group occupied vast areas in Iraq.
