"We are now holding talks with a number of companies and different countries, and we will see this expansion, gas is in demand for obvious reasons, and this demand generates market making it highly competitive across the world," Sada said at a press conference following the 18th Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) ministerial meeting.
The GECF event is being held on November 17-18 in Qatar. The forum is an intergovernmental organization of the world’s leading gas producers. Its members, which include Russia, Algeria, Iran, Nigeria and Qatar, together account for some 67 percent of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, according to the organization.
The minister said he expected demand for gas to increase in Latin America, India, Southeast Asia and even Europe.
Natural gas is a relatively clean fossil fuel which has been outpacing all other fossil fuels in terms of demand growth. On Wednesday, the International Energy Agency (IEA) in its annual forecast said it expected global demand for gas to rise by almost 50 percent by 2040.
