VIENNA (Sputnik) – Speaking with the IAEA board of governors, Amano noted that Iran's inventory of heavy water exceeded 130 metric tonnes for the second time since the January implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
"It is important that such situations should be avoided in future in order to maintain international confidence in the implementation of the JCPOA, which represents a clear gain for nuclear verification in Iran," Amano said.
He noted that Tehran has since made preparations to transfer heavy water out of the country under the IAEA's verification and monitoring to brings its stocks back under the 130-tonne limit.
