MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French Prime Minister Manuel Valls did not rule out Marine Le Pen of the right-wing Front National (FN) party might win the 2017 presidential election, at a Berlin forum on Thursday.
"All opinion polls say that candidate Marine Le Pen will reach the second tour … which shows that the balance in the French political life is in for a radical change," Valls said, as quoted by Le Parisien.
Speaking at the economic forum organized by German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the head of the Socialist government said "it is possible" that Le Pen would come on top after the second round of voting, but warned about a "danger posed by the far-right."
The French presidential election will be held in April and May 2017. Marine Le Pen is the flag-bearer for the populist FN party. She is running against The Republicans’ Nicolas Sarkozy and Alain Juppe, who are both vying for nomination. On Wednesday, ex-economy minister Emmanuel Macron joined the race.
