WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Representative Mike Pompeo has formally accepted the nomination by President-elect Donald Trump to be the next director of the Central Intelligence Agency, the congressman’s office said in a statement Friday.
"I am honored to have been given this opportunity to serve and to work alongside President-elect Donald J. Trump to keep America safe," the statement quoted Pompeo as saying. "I also look forward to working with America’s intelligence warriors, who do so much to protect Americans each and every day."
A US Army veteran who graduated from the service’s military academy, West Point, Pompeo serves on two House committees – Intelligence, and Energy and Commerce.
His nomination is subject to review by the US Senate, where Republicans have a majority.
