"Michael Flynn has shown a stunning contempt for the Geneva Conventions and other laws prohibiting torture. By offering this key post to Flynn, President-elect Trump is undermining US commitments to international laws that have been broken to America’s detriment," Human Rights Watch (HRW) Washington Director Sarah Margon said, according to the watchdog’s website.
Ex-director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Flynn was repeatedly accused of supporting torture as an interrogation technique, as well as other ill-treatment.
Trump secured a victory in the US presidential election on November 8 by receiving 290 electoral votes. His Democratic rival Hillary Clinton obtained 232 electoral votes. Trump's inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.
Currently the new president-elect is forming the transition team.
