MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The United States is planning to deploy a new armed brigade to Europe as well as to deliver additional supplies and equipment to reinforcements if necessary, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday.
"Today the United States continues to demonstrate its commitment to Europe’s security. It will deploy a new armed brigade to Europe and deliver equipment and supplies to support future reinforcements if needed," Stoltenberg said at the German Marshall Fund of the United States event in Brussels.
Since 2014, NATO has been building up its military presence in Europe, especially in Eastern European countries neighboring Russia, using Moscow’s alleged interference in the Ukrainian conflict as a pretext. Moscow has repeatedly denied the claims and warned NATO that the military buildup on Russia’s borders is provocative and threatens the existing strategic balance of power.
