DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Terrorist groups have subjected the Al-Caimari neighborhood in the historic center of the Syrian capital to mortar attacks, injuring four people, the city police said on Saturday.
"At present, four wounded have been confirmed. There are no fatalities," a police source told RIA Novosti.
On Friday, Jaish al-Islam militant group members targeted the central districts of Mouhajrin and Mazraa with mortar attacks. One of the shells fell not far from the Russian Embassy in Damascus, which later confirmed it had not been damaged in the attack.
Regular shelling of the city's residential areas continues to be carried out by terrorists based in the suburbs.
Since 2011, Syria has been engulfed in a civil war, following the protests that had turned violent, as part of the so-called Arab Spring. During the conflict, hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been killed and millions more have been displaced.
