Hundreds, possibly thousands in Chicago are continuing to protest the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States.

The protests have continued more than a week after the results of the vote were announced. At noon in Chicago November 19, protesters began marching through the city's downtown area toward Trump Tower carrying signs and chanting "No Trump," "No KKK," "No racist USA," NBC Chicago reported.

A Facebook event invitation to the protest showed that more than 3,000 people planned to attend. Twitter users on the ground report that the protest had drawn thousands.

"We must continue the wave of resistance to a Trump presidency. We cannot let an open racist, sexist and bigot rule this country or threaten the people of the world," Answer Chicago, the organizers of this protest, wrote about the event.

"We must stand with immigrants, Muslims, women, LGBTQ people, communities of color and all those who are in danger and will be under attack during a Trump administration. … Let's build a united front movement of the people to defend our communities, defeat Trump and beat back the racists, sexists and bigots."

"It is inevitable that millions of people will actively resist a Trump administration," Answer Chicago organizer John Beacham said, DNA Info reported. "A grassroots, fighting, progressive movement will emerge to protect people victimized by the hard-right cabal that is set to occupy Washington."

The group plans to send a contingent to protest Trump’s inauguration in January.

Trump's election has been widely protested, with large crowds gathering in particular in Portland, New York and Washington DC. Trump Towers around the world have been flashpoints for protests against the divisive billionaire’s victory.
