Russian energy giant Gazprom mulls new areas of cooperation with Japanese companies as Japan is one of the largest energy markets in the world, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said on Sunday.

LIMA (Sputnik) — As part of the summit, Miller took part in the meetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. According to Gazprom's statement, the meetings, in particular, raised the issues of current and prospective cooperation in the energy field.

"Japan is one of the largest energy markets in the world. We can see new opportunities, projects, areas of cooperation with Japanese companies," Miller told reporters at the summit.

Peru has been hosting APEC's all-year-round meetings that culminated with the economic leaders' summit in its capital city of Lima, which started on Saturday. The Gazprom delegation headed by Miller is participating in the summit.
