MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Vitaly Smirnov, an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from Russia, said Sunday that re-elected World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) President Craig Reedie promised to do all that was in his powers to restore the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) membership in the international organization.
Earlier in the day, Reedie was re-elected for his second three-year term as the head of the agency.
"Reedie was re-elected for the next term in office, his candidature has been supported by the IOC. He said that he plans to do everything possible to restore the membership of both our agency and [anti-doping] laboratory. There is a number of issues to be settled, but I think that they are within our capabilities," Smirnov, who is also the chair of the Russian independent anti-doping commission, told R-Sport.
