MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The construction of three naval bases and two naval zones has been launched in Makran, Sayyari said at a press conference as cited by Iran's Tasnim news agency.
The authorities started to pay special attention to the development of the Makran coast after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei marked it as one of the priority tasks in 2014, according to the media. In 2015, China and Iran agreed to build two new nuclear stations in the region.
The Iranian Navy has been on watch in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 as Somali pirates hijacked a cargo ship chartered by Iran to carry wheat off the coast of Yemen.
