Iraqi authorities delivered basic necessities to the residents of the areas recently liberated from Daesh terrorist group and located in Mosul's outskirts, Rudaw news agency reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On November 10, the counterterrorist units of the Iraqi army liberated the Zahra district in eastern Mosul from Daesh militants.

The humanitarian convoys arrived in Zahra to deliver food, medicines, toys and milk for infants, since stores and groceries in the area have been closed since October.

In order to avoid stampede and panic during the distribution of the humanitarian aid, the assistance workers registered the households, but the flow of desperate people from the regions under Daesh control did not allow carrying out the mission as planned, according to the media outlet.

Aid convoys were postponed several times from the beginning of the military operation to retake Mosul, since the roads were captured by Daesh militants.

On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi launched the operation to retake the city. The operation began with 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and 30,000 Iraqi soldiers backed by the US-led anti-terror coalition.

Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, and several other northern and western Iraqi cities and towns were seized in 2014 during an offensive of Daesh.
