MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The ministry signed contracts with three companies for the design and construction of the facilities and plans to sign one more in December.
"The constructions of infrastructure for Enhanced Forward Presence German-led battalion will be carried out in phases, a part of the facilities will be ready by February 2017, the rest of it – by June 2017. The total value of the project is EUR 5.8 million," the ministry's statement said.
At the NATO July summit in Warsaw, it was decided that the military alliance would send multinational battalions to Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland at the request of these countries. The battalion set to be deployed in Lithuania will be mainly staffed by German soldiers and will also include personnel from Belgium, Croatia, Luxembourg, Norway, France and the Netherlands.
