WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Monday afternoon meeting is to include both executives and anchors from the country's five biggest television networks, the report said.
"The substance of the meeting is intended to be off the record, meaning the participants will not divulge what is said," the corporate media outlet CNN reported.
Given the rancor between Trump and corporate mainstream media during the 2016 US presidential campaign, the discussion is likely to be especially lively, even if contents of the discussion remain secret.
Moreover, Trump apparently inspired reams of supporters to cast ballots, in part by making his own media rules. Trump made no secret during the campaign of his contempt for networks that portray themselves as objective, characterizing them as some of the most dishonest people.
In addition, Trump supporters appeared to rely on alternative and independent media outlets such as Breitbart News, Free Beacon and InfoWars, which post regularly on social media sites.
As a result, mainstream media wound up with significantly less influence than in past presidential elections.
