MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's historical southern region of Crimea rejoined the country after a 2014 referendum. Almost 97 percent of the region's population voted for reunification in a referendum. Ukraine, as well as the European Union, the United States and their allies, did not recognize the move and consider the peninsula to be an occupied territory.
"We [the government] do not interfere, if these companies [that do business in Crimea] act independently, without addressing any authorities… Switzerland does not forbid anything," Helg said.
The ambassador added that the Swiss companies had to proceed in Crimea at their own risk as some countries might express dissatisfaction with their business activities on the peninsula.
