MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Mandelbilt gave the green-light for a preliminary probe into a deal that might have been orchestrated by David Shimron, Netanyahu's personal lawyer, to benefit the German shipbuilder ThyssenKrupp after new information on the case had come to the attention of the attorney general, The Times of Israel newspaper reported.
Last week, Israeli media reported that Netanyahu’s lawyer David Shimron had been working with the Israeli businessman Mikki Ganor, a key negotiator in the submarine deal, to secure the agreement for ThyssenKrupp and relocate vessel maintenance service from the navy shipyard to them. Netanyahu's press service published a denial of the prime minister's connection to the deal.
Germany’s ThyssenKrupp has previously been accused of bribing officials in Greece, Turkey, South Korea, Pakistan and Indonesia to promote the sale of its submarines, according to German media reports.
