"We should fight terrorism and this is the strategy that the government employs. In parallel, we are conducting political work and are trying to achieve political settlement with the opposition. In other words, we are moving in two directions: military and political," Haddad said.
"We do not consider the opposition terrorists. We are fighting a war against terrorists, and we are sitting down at the negotiating table with the opposition," the diplomat asserted.
Damascus is confident in military victory over terrorists in Aleppo, Haddad said.
"We have no doubt that we will achieve a military victory in Aleppo, and the decision to normalize the situation in Aleppo is taken firmly by us. We will come to a positive solution of this problem," Haddad said.
Damascus hopes that the incoming US administration under President-elect Donald Trump will revise its strategy relating to Syria, he added.
"We hope that the new US administration will revise its strategy regarding Syria. The United States proclaimed its goals but failed to achieve them as they led to huge spending of billions of dollars. Where has the money gone? What have the US efforts led to?"
