MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the media, Pourdastan did not specify which country could sell the jets to Tehran.
"New plans are underway to purchase new fighter jets," Pourdastan told reporters in Tehran, stressing that Iranian army was able to defend the state and address emerging threats, as quoted by the Fars news agency.
In mid-November, the Russian upper house of parliament's defense committee chair Viktor Ozerov said that Russia and Iran were in talks on the supply of $10 billion worth of weapons and hardware, including T-90 tanks, artillery systems, aircraft and helicopters.
In October, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei told Sputnik in an interview that Tehran was looking for ways to broaden the scope of defense cooperation with Moscow.
