NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Envisioned as a weekly meeting, the town hall marked one of the very first attempts on behalf of larger anti-Trump organizations to systematize their political agenda into cohesive set of actions beyond demonstrations on the streets.
"Our voices are being heard in the streets," Not My President leader Jeremiah Johnson told Sputnik on Tuesday. "We are expressing our frustration and fear on a scale never before seen following a presidential election."
Listing specific issues and policies to target, Johnson noted that coordinating the efforts of working groups and ensuring proper communication are among the proactive goals Not My President tries to achieve through events like the town hall.
"We imagine this as the start of a flat, all volunteer group united in anger and committed to direct action, which will organize itself into working groups, focusing on everything from policy and data analysis to organizing protests, to ensure that we have the largest impact possible," another group leader James Krellenstein said.
Not My President is a US national movement created in wake of 2016 US presidential election. Originally aimed at giving voice to public frustration and opposing election results, the movement representatives say they have reformed its agenda to address a range of controversial proposals put forward by President-elect Trump and take a set of specific steps to address them.
