WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President-elect Donald Trump would be insulting people who voted for him if he chose 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney as the nation’s secretary of state, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said in an interview Wednesday.
"It would be a real insult to all those Donald Trump voters who worked really hard," Huckabee stated on Fox News Channel.
Huckabee, who sought the Republican Party’s nomination for president before withdrawing from the race in February, cited the bitter fight between the two men throughout the campaign, including Romney’s calling Trump “a fraud, “a phony” and “a con man.
"When you do that, there's only one way that Mitt Romney can be considered for a post like that, and that is if he goes to a mic in a very public place and repudiates everything he said," Huckabee added.
Media reports Tuesday indicated that Trump is likely to select Romney as the United States’ top diplomat. The two had a private meeting last Saturday.
