WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The nationwide injunction by US District Judge Amos Mazzant in Texas temporarily bars the Department of Labor from implementing the rule, which calls for employers to pay overtime to people who earn less than $47,476 a year – double the current threshold – when they work more than 40 hours a week.

Mazzant’s decision came in a lawsuit filed by 21 US states and a coalition of business groups that argued the rule is unlawful.

"The disastrous district court decision will unfairly harm millions of workers who are working longer hours for lower wages and have gone far too long without a raise," Sanders stated Wednesday.

The senator, whose bid for the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nomination emphasized economic fairness, asserted that anyone claiming to represent “working families” should be outraged by Tuesday’s ruling. Sanders urged both President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump to defend the rule.
