MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Commission expressed its support for the reforms launched by the Ukrainian government, adding that Kiev had already made some progress in various spheres.
"The European Union confirmed a range of specific support programmes designed to foster accountable and transparent governance. A programme to support the fight against corruption… will support the new anti-corruption bodies and the monitoring of anti-corruption efforts by the Rada and civil society with €15 million [$15.8 million]. This is just one element in a €300 million programme that also includes support for decentralisation (€97 million), the reform of public administration (€104 million), and the rule of law (€52.5 million)," the European Commission said in a press release.
The press release comes after the 18th EU-Ukraine Summit was held in Brussels earlier in the day.
In 2014, Kiev signed an association agreement opening with Brussels, opening the way for Ukraine's integration into the bloc. It was formally ratified by all EU member states but the Approval Act for the ratification of the deal, adopted by the Dutch parliament in 2015, has not entered into force yet.
