MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The European Commission's energy union chief has assured Russia that Ukraine has sufficient funds to purchase gas this winter period, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Friday.
"Our European colleagues have assured that Ukraine's Naftogaz has respective resources and in the nearest future additional resources will be allocated, which can be used to purchase necessary gas volumes," Novak told reporters following talks with Commission Vice President for energy Union Maros Sefcovic.
Sefcovic said the EC is finalizing work with the World Bank to secure a $500 million for Kiev.
"The key issue discussed today is reliable gas transit and gas supplies to European consumers during the fall-winter period," Novak said.
