MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the SANA news agency, local authorities provided the escaped civilians, most of them women, children and the elderly, with everything they needed.
Thousands of civilians have been trapped in Aleppo for months, without access to food, water, electricity or medical assistance as Syrian government troops and rebel forces continue to fight for its control. Last week, the first special operation to evacuate the citizens of eastern Aleppo was held, and about a dozen of people escaped the conflict-affected areas.
Earlier in the day, the Syrian army established full control over Masaken Hanano, the district in Aleppo that allows the government troops to enter the eastern part of the city controlled by rebels.
Russia has introduced multiple humanitarian pauses in Aleppo, but they all have failed because of a lack of initiative on the part of UN representatives, in addition to terrorist activity, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
