MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to The News International portal, Head of the Russian Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov has recently made a visit to Islamabad, where he met with senior Pakistani intelligence and defense officials. During the meeting, Bortnikov made the request, according to which Russia would like to join the economic corridor between Pakistan and China.
According to the news portal, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that many countries wanted to join the CPEC, and half of the world population would benefit from the project. He spoke after the visit to Turkmenistan, which also expressed desire to join the CPEC.
The Gwadar port features prominently in CPEC plan, and is considered to be a crucial link between the Chinese inititives, in particular, One Belt, One Road and Maritime Silk Road projects.
