MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Saleh expressed his condolences regarding the death of former Cuban president on November 26, in a statement released on official party website.
"President Ali Abdullah Saleh… has requested the United Nations Security Council to grant him permission to travel to the Republic of Cuba and to Fidel Castro’s family on the passing of the great revolutionary icon of Cuba, the last of the twentieth century’s heroes and the pioneer of the liberation movements who fought against imperialism and retrograde feudalism," Saleh’s party said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Houthi fighters, supported by army units loyal to Saleh. In 2014, the UN Security Council banned Saleh from global travel and impounded his assets for undermining peace and political stability in Yemen.
