WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — American Airlines Flight 17 from Miami landed at Havana International Airport on Monday morning.
Earlier in the day, the US Department of Transportation announced that Deputy Secretary of Transportation Victor Mendez would be on the flight.
A second US commercial flight, operated by JetBlue, was scheduled to arrive from New York after 1 p.m. EST.
In August, US President Barack Obama announced the first regular commercial flights between the United States and Cuba in 55 years.
The first charter commercial flight, operated by JetBlue, took place on August 31 between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the Cuban city of Santa Clara.
