WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Sunday, Trump claimed on his Twitter account that he won the popular vote in the November 8 election if the tally discounted millions of illegal votes.

"What I can say as an objective fact is there has been no evidence produced to substantiate a claim like that," Earnest told reporters.

According to tracking data, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2.2 million votes.

Trump exceeded the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the US election, according to tracking data.
