An active shooter alert has been issued for the Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, OSU emergency management team announced on Monday.

The University authorities issued an alert message to the students urging them to "run, hide and fight."

At least eight people were transported to the hospital after shooting at the campus, Ohio Fire Department spokesman said. The nature of the victims’ injuries remains unknown, NBC4i reported. One person is in critical condition but the rest are stable, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, the Columbus police reported that the suspect shooter may be surrounded in Lane Ave.

Local media reports that agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation are heading to the scene to assist with the investigation.
US media reported that US law enforcement is looking for more suspects in connection with the mass shooting at Ohio State University in the US city of Columbus.

The Columbus Department of Public Safety is searching for other possible shooting suspects after one suspect has been reported dead, ABC News reported.
The order for students and staff to shelter in place at Ohio State University (OSU) in the town of Columbus has been lifted, campus police said in a Twitter message.
UPDATE 1/2: Shelter in Place lifted. Scene is now secure. ALL classes are canceled on Columbus campus for the remainder of the day.
