MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Investigative Committee launched criminal cases against Ukrainian armed forces commanders for their role in the shelling of civilians in eastern Ukraine, the committee's spokeswoman said Monday.
"The investigation opened criminal proceedings against the listed commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for an offense under Part 1, Article 356 of the Russian Criminal Code [use in a military conflict of means and methods of warfare banned by Russia's international treaty]," Svetlana Petrenko said.
The investigation established that at least six Ukrainian Armed Forces and National Guard brigade commanders and their subordinates shelled civilian infrastructure in September-November, leading to at least two deaths and over 20 injuries.
