BEIRUT (Sputnik) — "The army and the militia managed to regain control over the districts of Sheikh Khodr and Sheikh Fares. Thus, we can say that the north-eastern part of Aleppo is completely under the control of the Syrian army," the source said.
Thousands of civilians have been trapped in Aleppo for months, without access to food, water, electricity or medical assistance as Syrian government troops and rebel forces continue to fight for its control.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting the Syrian opposition groups striving to overthrow President Assad. In parallel, Damascus has to counter numerous extremist groups, in particular, the Islamic State (ISIL), the terrorist group outlawed in wide range of countries.
