BALI (Sputnik) — The suspects that are allegedly memebers of the terror group that has pledged allegiance to Daesh, are being interrogated by law enforcement.
Earlier in November, the Indonesian police arrested Rio Priatna Wibawa, a supporter of Bahrun Naim, an Indonesian believed to be fighting alongside Daesh. Bahrun Naim is believed to be a mastermind of terrorist attacks in Jakarta in January, when a series of coordinated explosions and gunfire occurred in the center of the city, near a United Nations information center. Four civilians and four attackers were killed and over 20 people were injured in the assault.
According to Boy, the detainees provided Rio Priatna Wibawa with materials necessary to make explosives. The terrorist suspects planned to attack the Parliamentary Complex, National Police headquarters, Myanmar Embassy and offices of two TV stations, the police spokesman added.
Daesh, a radical Sunni group, is banned in a range of countries, including Russia. It has captured vast areas in Iraq and Syria and has claimed responsibility for an array of attacks carried out in various countries. According to the official statistics provided by the local authorities, some 500 Indonesian citizens left for the war-torn Syria to join the ranks of the jihadist group.
