US Not Planning to Join Normandy Format Talks on Ukraine Settlement
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Amos Hochstein will travel to Kiev to discuss Ukraine’s energy reform efforts with EU member states, the US Department of State said in a press release.

"In Kiev, Ukraine, Special Envoy Hochstein will meet with senior government officials to discuss Ukraine’s ongoing energy reform efforts and Ukraine’s energy engagement with EU member states and other countries in the region," the release stated on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, EU diplomats said Europe was closely monitoring Ukraine's energy reforms and would exert the necessary efforts to ensure Ukraine would remain an important partner in natural gas transportation.

Ukraine is a key country for transporting Russian gas to Europe, but the two nations have been engaged in energy disputes for years.

Despite the fact that the European Commission has consistently advocated for the gas transit through Ukraine, it has recently expanded the access of Russian energy giant Gazprom to the Opal pipeline.
