WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Canada’s imposition of new sanctions against six Russian state Duma members who represent Crimea are “illegitimate and irrational” and will incur a commensurate response from Moscow, spokesman Kirill Kalinin of the Russian Embassy in Ottawa said in a statement.
“It’s very disappointing that the Canadian government once again has trapped itself in a vicious circle of confrontational approach toward Russia,” the statement issued late Monday added. “This new wave of illegitimate and irrational sanctions will have a backlash effect, especially at a time when Russia-Canada relations were starting to thaw.”
