WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On behalf of Daesh, the man planned to carry out large-scale shooting attacks in the US states of North Carolina and Virginia, US attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose stated in the release.
"Justin Nojan Sullivan, 20, of Morganton, North Carolina, appeared in federal court in Asheville, North Carolina today and pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries," the release stated on Tuesday.
Sullivan was arrested by the US authorities in June 2015 after an undercover FBI employee exposed his planned attack.
US intelligence estimates the number of foreign fighters that have joined Daesh to be between 20,000 and 30,000. The militant group also recruits or coerces fighters from areas under its control in Iraq and Syria.
