MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov said Tuesday he was in talks with an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) official on the Ukrainian military’s plan to fire missiles in airspace above Crimean territorial waters in the Black Sea this week.
"I held talks with the ICAO authorized officer… and the head of the European office in Ashgabat [Turkmenistan]. We have notified ICAO of this and are now waiting for the international organization's reaction," Sokolov told reporters.
The Russian air transport agency Rosaviatsia said last week that Ukraine unilaterally decided to hold missile firing exercises near Simferopol in violation of international agreements.
Ukraine's missile drills are expected to take place on December 1-2 between 05:00 GMT and 17:00 GMT, Rosaviatsia said, adding that the launches would extend into Russia’s civil airspace and present a threat to flight safety.
