MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump share the outlines of their foreign policy approaches despite differences on details, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.
"They are not identical. Of course there may be differences. The basic approaches are very similar. But of course there are differences," Peskov told reporters.
The divergence was exemplified in the two leaders' reactions to the death of Cuba's longstanding revolutionary leader Fidel Castro on November 25.
On Saturday, Trump called Castro a dictator and promised to help the island nation’s liberty and prosperity in the years ahead. Putin offered condolences to President Raul Castro, describing the deceased leader a "remarkable political figure" and a patriot.
