UNSC North Korea Sanctions Resolution Debate in Final Stages - Japanese FM
BEIJING (Sputnik) — The UN Security Council (UNSC) may consider the draft resolution on new sanctions against North Korea next week, according to earlier reports.

"We know that the UNSC is working out a new resolution. All the permanent members have already agreed on a draft resolution. We expect the agreement to be reached as soon as possible in order to deliver an important message to the world," Shuang said at a briefing.

Shuang noted that all media reports concerning the subject matter of the resolution were speculations, since the resolution should first be released.

The current composition of the Security Council includes five permanent members, namely China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

On September 5, Pyongyang launched three ballistic missiles in the direction of the Sea of Japan. Several days later it conducted successful test of a nuclear warhead, which is believed to be the fifth and largest blast since Pyongyang began pursuing nuclear and ballistic missile programs. On October 14, North Korea carried out a failed test of the Musadan intermediate-range ballistic missile near the northwestern city of Kusong.

The incidents have sparked concern in neighboring Japan, as North Korean missiles reached Japanese waters after flying over 600 miles from the launch site during early September's ballistic test. The UN Security Council condemned the test as a repeated violation of the its resolutions.
