WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States will provide assistance to Colombia after the plane carrying a Brazilian football team crashed in the country’s northwest, US State Department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Tuesday.
The plane, operated by Bolivfia’s Lamia Corporation airline, was carrying 81 people including the Brazilian Chapecoense Real football team when it crashed earlier on Tuesday. According to official reports, six people survived the crash.
"We are in communication of course with Colombian authorities, and we’ll provide assistance as requested," Kirby said, adding Bogota has asked for assistance. "We’ll be mobilizing to provide whatever is required."
