Over 1Mln Google Accounts Breached by Android Malware Campaign Gooligan

An android malware attack campaign known as Gooligan has compromised the security of more than one million Google accounts, the Check Point Software Company announced in a release Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Gooligan potentially affects Android 4 and 5 devices, the release said, adding that about 57 percent of these devices are located in Asia. An additional 9 percent of the devices are in Europe.

"The attack campaign, named Gooligan, breached the security of over one million Google accounts," the company said in the release. "The number continues to rise at an additional 13,000 breached devices each day."

Check Point has reached out to the Google Security team and are working with the company to investigate the Gooligan incident, the release noted.

Gooligan is a new variant of the Android malware campaign found by Check Point last year, the release said.
