"ICRC begins to send employees to the areas of Aleppo where armed clashed stopped to assess the situation on the ground and to get understanding of the needs of people there," Zotikova said.
According to Zotikova, ICRC staff deliver humanitarian aid and water to accommodation centers in Jibreen and al-Mahalej for people fleeing Aleppo and help deliver the sick and wounded to hospitals.
"Yesterday our team together with the teams of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent visited two temporary accommodation centers in Jibreen and al-Mahalej, which are located to the South-West of Aleppo. According to our estimates around 16-18 thousand people are now in these centers. We deliver to these centers humanitarian aid, water, help to deliver the sick and wounded in hospitals," the spokeswoman added.
Zotikova said that ICRC employees communicated with people in these centers, with a lot of women and children, to begin work on reuniting disconnected families and search of missing people during the escape from Aleppo.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry’s spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the United Nations have not yet offered humanitarian relief to 90,000 Aleppo citizens, liberated from militants two days ago. He reminded about the previous US, UK, UN and French demands to provide humanitarian access to eastern Aleppo when it was held by the militants.
On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Syrian government forces had cleared almost half of eastern Aleppo from militant strongholds, liberating tens of thousands local residents.
The situation in Aleppo has been seriously deteriorating over the recent months. Thousands of civilians are trapped in the terrorist-besieged eastern parts of Aleppo with no access to food or water. There have been several attempts to establish a ceasefire, however the bids have failed.
